Change is happening—whether we like it or not.
We’ve created a world that’s built on business — and we’re addicted to it.
We all rely on companies in our day to day lives, from the clothes on our backs, to the food we eat, to the energy we consume. So when it comes to facing climate change—arguably the BIGGEST crisis to affect humankind—it’s not as simple as saying business needs to stop.
Brands underpin the services and lifestyle we’ve created and feed our needs, wants, and desires. While there are those who value profit over people, many exist to meet a broader societal need and help balance employment and monetary issues.
As a society, we can’t complain about business on the one hand, but then buy from them and support them in the same breath. It’s a flawed argument and unhelpfully polarises the debate when it comes to the best way to communicate and ideate around change.
We believe there are 3 truths that challenge the way every business operates today:
- Every business has some kind of negative affect on the environment. Every company touches the planet in some way, be that through energy use, waste production, or direct emissions.
- Every business has things they can improve on to benefit the environment. There’s something every company can do to better impact or serve people and/or the planet.
- Every business has the choice to change and improve their operations. This is no “I would if I could…” scenario—we all have a choice and options to make changes if we want to.
